The Person Behind TikTok Success

Behind every great man is a great woman. It's an expression that is quite popular in the 1940s which clearly shows how crucial a woman's role is towards a man's success. Most of you probably have heard of this buzz app called TikTok that is going viral these days.

The company used to be called ByteDance which was founded by a great man namely Zhang Yiming. According to AppAnnie, TikTok is considered one of the most popular apps out there surpassing Twitter in the shortest amount of time.

Of course, their rival will most definitely be Facebook which happens to be the most downloaded app as of now.

Did you also know that Zhang Yiming is also helped by another great woman who happens to have vast knowledge regarding the management of a tech company?

That woman is Liu Zhen and she plays an important role in the development of the TikTok application, especially in the United States and other parts of the world that are on fire right now.

She graduated from the University of Renmin and further her studies in Law at the University of Berkeley, California. After she completed her studies in law, she decided to work in the law firm at Fenwick and West LLC.

This company is probably the most popular law firm specifically in the buying and selling affairs of tech companies in Silicon Valley. After she has worked for 9 years in the law firm, she manages to get the attention of Travis Kalanick in the year 2015 who happens to be the founder of Uber. She was then hired to work for Uber.

She holds the position of Senior Vice President and Head of Strategy while she was in the company. Her responsibility was to focus on the development of Uber's operation in Mainland China.

Not just that but she is also very influential since she happens to be the niece of the founder of Lenovo company, Liu Chuanzhi as well as the cousin of Liu Qing the president of Didi.

However, things did not turn out well for Uber as they were unable to compete with Didi and they were definitely losing out. Uber finally decided to sell all its shareholding in China to Didi.

In the year 2016, Zhang Yiming managed to persuade Liu Zhen to work for his company ByteDance and Liu Zheng was appointed as the Senior Vice President of Corporate Development. Since Zhang Yiming has no experience regarding the market in the United States, this will be his opportunity to expand ByteDance across the country.

In that particular year, ByteDance also launched another app known as Douyin which is basically a short music app that has managed to get the interest of many youngsters to use the app. Later on, Douyin was rebranded into TikTok in the international market.

The first step that was done by Liu Zhen was she bought a company almost similar to TikTok called Musical.ly and in 2018 ByteDance decided to buy Musical.ly and combined both apps into TikTok. This decision finally paid off as it is considered the best strategy to penetrate the United States market with the current users it already has.

As we can see from the cooperation between Duo, Zhang Yiming, and Liu Zhen, the TikTok app has managed to conquer the social media market outstandingly to the extent that even Facebook themselves admits that some of its users have already started to use the app. The numbers have increased rapidly compared to Facebook in the past.

Things remain a mystery as Liu Zhen decided to leave ByteDance after 4 years of working due to personal issues.

The contribution that she had given to ByteDance is one of the factors why ByteDance became the most influential social media app in the shortest amount of time.
