1. Microsoft

Microsoft is one of the biggest tech companies in the world and it is founded by non-other than Bill Gates. He starts up the company when he was still a student at Harvard University together with Paul Allen

Microsoft was established to create an operating system to make the whole process of using a computer much easier in the future. Well, it definitely did and to this day Microsoft has dominated the computer operating software and it seems that only Apple managed to contend with its own macOS system.

The net value of Microsoft today will be worth an estimated $281.21 billion.

2. Facebook
Similar to Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg also went to Harvard and his company Facebook was founded in 2004. During that time, Facebook's presence was not that noticed until its competitor MySpace pretty much died out.

As we can see other competitors like WhatsApp and Instagram were also bought by Mark Zuckerberg himself making Facebook's presence a real monopoly. This movie managed to make Facebook the most popular social media platform out there with Twitter and TikTok following close behind.

Yahoo was a company founded by two young students who happened to graduate from Stanford University which is Jerry Yang and David Filo.

This company which is based on the search engine as well as e-mail has started operating since 1995. From the start, Yahoo was the main platform for all your daily required searches online and in fact, it also has a segment almost similar to WhatsApp.

However, things did not last long for Yahoo as it was quickly taken over by Google which happens to monopolize the search engine industry today. All of this is due to Yahoo not being able to keep up with the demands as well as the inability to make a change towards user-friendliness. 

Not to matter as this company is still slowly generating as much as $40.94 billion despite being rejected by Google.

4. Reddit
Reddit is the most popular social news platform out there and it was also founded by two bright students from The University of Virginia, Alexis Ohanian and Steve Huffman in 2005. Everything started when Alexis and Steve attended this talk by a computer scientist, Paul Graham.

Paul has confronted both Alexis and Steve to attend his classes. At the time Alexis and Steve managed to create My Mobile Menu which is a platform that enables its users to order food through SMS but it seems the app did not go far.

The discussion went on between the two and they come up with this ingenious idea of the early concept of Reddit which they call the "front page of the Internet".

In the end, both these students have finally succeeded in creating Reddit. As of now, Reddit has more than 174 million users across 186 countries worldwide. The net value of the company is estimated to be worth $240 million.

5. WordPress

WordPress was founded by Matt Mullenweg who is a student at The University of Houston in 2003. The creation of WordPress has given many benefits to the whole world since it has created many job opportunities.

A lot of writers, bloggers, website designers, and many others have generated decent income from WordPress. However, the presence of WordPress has resulted in many physical newspapers becoming obsolete and a lot of media companies have shifted towards digitalization. A lot of websites that use WordPress as the domain are increasing as we speak especially amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

It can be said that WordPress is one of the most successful online platforms in the world and to this day WordPress is worth $1.16 billion.

6. Google

Google was founded in 1998 by two Stanford University students, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin. The popular search engine was only built in their dormitory room and it was known as Backrub at the early stage.

After a while, it was renamed to Google since the letter "o" symbolizes the aspiration of Larry and Sergey to dominate the search for information that can be easily accessed. All that has been dreamt by these two were finally a reality when Google today has been used by billion of users worldwide.

Today Google is worth an estimated $380.81 billion. 

7. Dell

This company was established in the year 1984 with the name PC's Limited by Michael Dell who was currently a student at the University of Texas. Michael started his business in his dormitory room too and he provided the service to repair students' computers. 

After some time Michael started to focus on producing his own computer by launching Turbo PC. In 1988, PC's Limited has been rebranded to Dell Computer Corporation. After that, it all became history as Dell is considered the main producer of computers across the globe together with other companies out there.

As of now, Dell is worth $24.4 billion.
