Top 5 Epic Ways Prisoners Escaped
Prison is the place to lock up individuals who have been sentenced due to disobeying the law. Most prisons are designed in a way that an escape will be merely impossible and they are heavily guarded.
However, there have been cases where a few prisoners managed to make an escape from prison. The odd part is the way how these convicts managed to escape and here we would like to share with you some of the epic ways prisoners managed to pass the barriers toward their freedom.

1. Michel Vaujour
Michel Vaujour is a convict in France who has been sentenced to 18 years in jail due to arm robbery and an attempt to murder a police officer. Before this Vaujour managed to make an escape 4 times from prison.
In 1986, Vaujour made the 5th attempt and probably the most epic one yet. He uses the fruit, nectarine that has a color similar to a hand grenade to prevent himself from getting caught.
When Vaujour managed to climb the roof of the prison, his wife, Nadine arrived in Paris to take Vaujour away using a rented helicopter. Nadine was willing to take flight courses for months so that she could fly the helicopter to save her husband. She landed on a football field before fleeing from the scene.
Not long after that, Nadine was found and caught southwest of France while Vaujour was still on the loose. It seems Vaujour never learn his lesson and decided to rob a bank but his attempt failed and resulted in him getting shot in the head. He was quite fortunate to be alive after the incident.
2. Choi Gap-Bok
In 2012, a South Korean man aged 50 managed to make an impossible escape no one has ever done before. He managed to get past the food slot which is only sized 6 x 18 inches.
Being in prison is not something new for Gap-Bok as he has spent many years in prison and almost 23 years as a convict. When he was in prison he constantly practiced yoga for almost 20 years so that he can prepare for his greatest escape ever.
He pours lotion all over his body so that it is slippery enough to pass his whole body through the food slot in less than a minute. Gap-Bok managed to pass through 3 guards who fell asleep on duty and jumped out through a very tight window.

After realizing the disappearance of Gap-Bok a hunting operation was initiated. Gap-Bok was later found in a small box, 30 km from the place he was locked up. He was then arrested and put back where he belong except that the food slot was made 2.5 x 5 inches only, smaller than the previous one.
3. Charles Rigoulot
Charles Rigoulot is a weight-lifting athlete from France and he was sentenced to prison for hitting one of the Nazi officers during the Second World War. Back then France was under Germany's occupation.
Rigoulot who was very active in the weightlifting sport since he was young had won a gold medal in the Olympics and held 10 world records in that sport. Rigoulot has also been crowned the strongest man in the world.
When he was in prison, Rigoulot who has a very strong and muscular body managed to bend the iron bars of his cell something most people would not have the capability of doing. He did not just run away by himself but also helped his cellmate to make the same escape.
After helping most of the convicts, Rigoulot decided to find the Nazi officer that made him go to jail. When he found the officer, Rigoulot beat up the officer to seek revenge.
Rigoulot happens to be not just a weightlifter but also a boxer, car racer, and actor at the time. Unfortunately, Rigoulot passed away on 22 August 1962 due to a heart attack.
4. Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman
One of the most notorious drug cartels out there, El Chapo is the name for the Mexican drug lord that used to lead the Sinaloa Cartel. Guzman was first caught in 1993 and was sentenced to 20 years in jail for the guilty of murder and drug distribution.
He was locked up in a highly secured prison in Mexico. Despite being in prison, Guzman is still the mastermind behind the biggest drug smuggling in Mexico. In January 2001 he managed to escape the prison by hiding in one of the baskets for dirty clothes.
It is definitely not easily break free from this highly secured prison but Guzman has bribed roughly 70 prison guards including the director of the prison himself.
Guzman spent around $2.5 million to buy his way out and for the next 13 years Guzman vanished into the shadows but his drug empires expanded tremendously. Forbes magazine has also classified Guzman as one of the most influential individuals between 2009 and 2013.

Even the United States of America labeled Guzman as the number 1 Public Enemy in 2013. Guzman was the second person to be labeled as such after Al Capone back in the 1920s.
5. Yoshie Shiratori
Yoshie Shiratori was very well-known and was considered a hero of Japan who had a high determination to be free. He managed to escape four times from different prisons. Yoshie has proved that no prison shall keep him locked in there.
In 1936, Yoshie managed to get away from Aomori Prison after months of observing the prison guards' routine. He opened the lock of the cell by using scrap metals that were collected from different sources in the prison.
Not long after he was arrested after stealing in a hospital and was sentenced to a lifetime in prison. In 1942, Yoshie was moved to the Akita prison. He was diligent enough to climb the walls of the prison every night to loosen the air ventilation chamber until he managed to escape through it.
After becoming free, he stop by the house of the guard named Kobayashi who was very lenient to him while he was in prison. But things did not end well for Yoshie as the guard quickly called the police while Yoshie was in the toilet and he was apprehended again.
Yoshie was later sent to Abashiri prison in Hokkaido. Every day, he would purposely pour miso soup on his chains until it becomes rusted and breaks. He intentionally broke both of his shoulders so that he will fit into small the food slot to escape.
He was arrested again not long after and was sent to Sapporo prison where he managed to escape for the fourth time in 1947 after digging a hole using the bowl of miso soup bit by bit.
A few years after that, he got caught doing this and was put in Fuchu Prison in Tokyo. He finally decided to not escape from the prison but instead to spend his 14 years doing his time. After he was released, Yoshie lived together with his daughter until he passed away in 1979 at age 71.
