5. Sao Paulo - Brazil (264 meters)

From the year 1964 until 2000, the French navy owned 2 battleships known as the Clemenceau class. When the French started to make some improvements to their ship, one of them was sold to Brazil in 2000 at the price of $12 million.

The battleship was later renamed by the Brazilian government to Sao Paulo. After the battleship was bought, slight modifications were made to the side decks, engine, sensor, and weapon defenses. 

Despite the ship being owned by Brazil, the French have still given many improvements to Sao Paolo until today. The ship can carry 30 fighter jets at one time.

4. INS Vikramaditya - India (283 meters)

Some might be surprised that India managed to make it on this list. INS Vikramaditya is a battleship owned by the Indian government and it is the 4th biggest in the world with a length of 283 meters.

The original name for INS Vikramaditya will be Baku and previously Baku was owned by the Soviet Union back in 1987. Due to the insufficient fund of the Russian government to support their naval expenses, Baku was put aside to be sold.

The Indian government decided to buy Baku in 2004 which cost them $2.3 billion with a condition that Russia will help them to modify the battleship. The process of modification ended in 2013 and officially the name was changed to INS Vikramaditya. This ship is capable of occupying 36 jet fighters.

3. Liaoning - China (304 meters)

This is another battleship that used to be owned by the Soviet Union and it was given the name Riga. In 1990, Riga was then changed to Varyag. Due to budget issues, Varyag was considered an excess burden for the Russian government and they decided to not make it their own battleship.

This battleship was later on bought by China in 1998 with a price unit of $25 million. In 2012, the name Varyag was once again changed to Liaoning, its new owner. Liaoning was the first battleship ever to be owned by China.

Liaoning is fully equipped with heavy weapons like missiles, and jet fighters as well as submarines.

2. Admiral Kuznetsov - Russia (305 meters)

With a length of 305 meters, this is the second-biggest battleship in the world and it is owned by the Russians. It was given the name Admiral Kuznetsov Class and was fully equipped with weaponry ready to go for war. This also includes several missiles and anti-submarine weapons.

Due to its strong weapons, this battleship was known to be the strongest one in the world. Not just that it was also the first battleship owned by Russia since 1990 before its previous version was sold to China.

Admiral Kuznetsov is ready to set sail and carry with it 39 fighter jets and many helicopters.

1. Nimitz Class - United States of America (332 meters)

As of writing, the Nimitz class is the biggest battleship in the world and it is proudly owned by the United States of America. Not just that it is the biggest one yet but it is also the most expensive one out there with a cost of $4.4 billion a unit and it seems that the US has ten of it.

Nimitz Class can carry 85 to 90 American fighter jets far surpassing any battleships in the world. It is also equipped with missiles and strong weapons that can protect itself from invaders.

The battleship was also involved in humanitarian aid where help was sent to Aceh in 2004 and the Tahiti earthquake in 2010. The United States government is now building a much stronger battleship, the Gerald R. Ford Class which is far much superior to the Nimitz Class with an estimated cost of $7.3 billion to $12 billion.
