An Abundance of Wrestling Organizers

Because of this hype, the popularity of this sport quickly grew across all states in North America. Looking at the amount of profit that can be made, therefore the existence of many organizers promoting wrestling sports in their area.

Back then, it was based on a territorial system where each wrestler will fight under the shade of the local companies alone. On top of that, 3 main television stations at the time made this sport the top of the line compared to just watching other shows on tv.

It was estimated that 30 to 40 organizing companies across America were present at that time.

Popular Wrestling Stars Were Born

Every territory will feature its own star that has become a sensation among the community due to their insane stunts each week not to mention the beastly scene and unique appearance. Some of the known stars at that time were Hulk Hogan from American Wrestling Association(AWA), Bret Hart from Stampede Wrestling(SW), and Ric Flair from Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling (MACP).

Not long after, all companies from the whole US decided to establish one body known as The National Wrestling Alliance(NWA) where each champion from the respective territory will go up against each other on the most prestigious stage to fight for the one and only World Champion.

The title goes to one North American wrestler, Buddy Rogers.

In 1963, several organizers in North America withdrew from the NWA and form another alliance company, World Wide Wrestling Federation owned by the famous Vince McMahon Sr.

The purpose of this establishment was to compete with the NWA. In their first match, WWWF led by Bruno Sammartino managed to defeat Buddy Rogers of NWA that held the title of World Champion.

Vince McMahon As The Face Of The New Company

In 1982, Vincent Sr. has sold all the company's shares to his son, Vince Jr.. Vince Jr. had big visions compared to his old man as he believed that by promoting the wrestling match to all channels, it will not just be the most popular sport in the state but also the whole world.

Vincent has rebranded the WWWF to Word Wrestling Federation(WWF). In that same year, Vincent Jr. tied a contract with Hulk Hogan as the new face of WWF. He had invested a huge sum of money to commercialize WWF on the local tv station, USA Network.

He went to every territory and got the signature of each individual wrestler and put them on tv. Vince Jr.'s action got the attention of many wrestling organizers and the wrestlers themselves as they believed that Vincent Jr. has jeopardized the nature of the wrestling industry.

Due to his action, it was considered bad for business and no more fresh stars were to be born. But Vince Jr. had promised lucrative bonuses to all parties in the industry. He also provided conducive facilities to all the wrestlers and audience as well as wide coverage to the whole of the US.

Several years later, another wrestling organizer arises with the same vision as WWF which is World Championship Wrestling(WCW) owned by a businessman from Ohio, Ted Turner. In 1990, WWF and WCW compete with one another for a decade long.

Monday Night Wars(Dispute Of Wrestling In Different Channels)

The competition between the two companies was clear when both of them aired their very own wrestling match on Monday night. The viewers can decide whether to watch WWF: Monday Night Raw or WCW: Monday Nitro.

For 10 years, WWF has dominated the total viewership and won the competition. They later rebranded the company to World Wrestling Entertainment(WWE). Vince McMahon bought WCW for the price of $4.2 million and rebranded everything under WWE.

Until 2016, all profits garnered by WWE reached a whopping $1 billion and ultimately made Vince McMahon a tycoon in the world's professional wrestling. The vision and confidence held by Vince Jr. should be made as an example of what it took to be successful.

We should always take every opportunity that has been given to us and if you were to start first, you will definitely have the upper hand. And in this case, Vince Jr. won the competition and made WWE the most popular wrestling entertainment in the world.
