With various mountains across the globe, they serve as a purpose to the earth's ecosystem with some being much taller than others. There are so many contenders for the tallest mountain in the world but it seems that Mount Everest has remained unchallenged over the years.
As many people attempt to climb various tall mountains across the globe, only a few of them have managed to conquer these mountains and reached the top. Here we would like to share with you the top 10 tallest mountains in the world that far surpasses the rest.

10. Annapurna I (Nepal)
Technically speaking, the Annapurna is a peak that is a part of the Himalayas which has around 30 mountains exceeding 6,000 meters in height. However, Annapurna is one of the most dangerous mountains to hike with a high death-to-hiking ratio of 32 percent.
The peak of Annapurna mountain managed to be reached in 1950 by a French expedition team led by Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal.
9. Nanga Parbat (Pakistan)
The Nanga Parbat mountain in the Gilgit-Baltistan region in Pakistan is the highest point of the Western Himalayas. In 1953m Hermann Buhl who was part of an expedition of Germans and Austrians became the first man to reach the peak of Nanga Parbat.
This mountain is well known for its dangerous hills to climb and some even call it the 'Killer Mountain'.
8. Manaslu (Nepal)
Manaslu Mountain is located in the midwest of Nepal and it is the tallest mountain in the Gorkha region. The first hikers to conquer the top of Manaslu mountain were Toshio Iminashi(Japan) and Sherpa Gyakzeb Norbu(Nepal) in 1956.
It is also known by the locals as Kutang and it is the eighth-tallest mountain in the world.
7. Dhaulagiri (Nepal)
In 1808, Dhaulagiri mountain was recorded as the tallest mountain in the world based on the mountains that were studied. This record was held by it until 1838 when Kangchenjunga mountain took over the spot.

Dhaulagiri mountain is situated in Nepal and the first time mankind climbed to the top will be in 1960 by a group of hikers coming from Switzerland, Austria, and Nepal.
6. Cho Oyu (Nepal & Tibet)
Among all the Himalayan Mountains exceeding 8,000 meters, most hikers believed that Cho Oyu mountain is among the easiest ones to conquer since it is not as steep as others. The word 'Cho Oyu' means the Turquoise Goddess which stands between Nepal and China.
The first hikers to climb to the peak of Cho Oyu Mountain were in 1954 by two Austrians named Joseph Jöchler and Herbert Tichy along with a Nepalese, Pasang Dawa Lama.
5. Makalu (Nepal & Tibet)
Located 19 km due southeast of Mount Everest between the borders of Nepal and China, Makalu mountain is known for its pyramid shape peak. The first successful attempt made to climb to the top will be in 1955 by Lionel Terray and Jean Couzy who were a part of the French expedition.
It is known by many hikers as a challenging climbing destination.
4. Lhotse (Nepal & Tibet)
The top of Lhotse mountain is located between the borders of Khumbu in Nepal and Tibet. This mountain is considered a neighbor to Mount Everest and a part of the massive mountains nearby.
Lhotse was first conquered in 1956 by 2 Swiss, Ernst Reiss, and Fritz Luchsinger.
3. Kanchenjunga (Nepal & India)
Situated between the borders of Nepal and India and 125 km from Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga mountain is the second tallest mountain in the Himalayas. This mountain was considered the tallest in the world until 1852.

The peak of Kanchenjunga was first reached in 1955 by Joe Brown and George Brand who were a part of the British expedition.
2. K2 (Pakistan & China) - Godwin-Austen
Some of you might have watched the movie Vertical Limit which was published in 2000 featuring the scenery of K2 mountain. K2 or also known as the Godwin-Austen mountain or Chhogori is located between the borders of China and Pakistan.
The hike usually starts from Pakistan as it is deemed to be much safe than in China. Just behind Annapurna, K2 has the second-highest death rate for mountains exceeding 8,000 meters.
The mountain was also given the name 'Savage Mountain' since there will always be a casualty each year.
1. Mount Everest
The tallest mountain in the world today will be Mount Everest which is situated in the borders of Nepal and Tibet. This mountain was first conquered in 1953 by 2 hikers namely Sir Edmund Hillary(New Zealand) and Tenzing Norgay(Nepal).
It was estimated that more than 200 bodies were found on Mount Everest where most of them are still in good condition due to the extreme weather. Everest is a part of the Seven Summits which is the tallest mountain on the 7 continents.
Conquering all 7 mountains will be a dream come true for any hikers and we have yet to witness such an occasion.
