Toothpaste Color Code & Its Meaning

To this day most of us must have shared with others a myth most popular brands of toothpaste. You must have read it somewhere about the meaning behind this color code. 

If you were to look at most toothpaste, you will find different colored codes commonly imprinted at the bottom of the toothpaste. This color code comes in different types and colors whether it is blue, green, red or black.

Many believed that the color code refers to the content inside the toothpaste that is being sold. For instance, the blue color means natural and medical ingredients, the green color shows that the toothpaste is made from 100% natural ingredients, red is a combination of natural and chemical ingredients whereas black means that the content of the toothpaste is 100% chemical ingredients.

Is Such Claim Even True?

This myth has been going around following our doubts as consumers with regard to the products being purchased. After all, who does not like to talk about conspiracy theories especially when they involved big corporations.

This myth is absolutely bogus and not true as the color imprinted on the toothpaste has no relation whatsoever with the ingredients inside the toothpaste itself. But you are still eager of knowing the true meaning behind those colored codes.

The color code is actually an eye mark or color marks that are imprinted so that the scanning detector will be able to detect which part of the toothpaste needs to be folded or glued. Originally, the toothpaste tube is one long cylinder with openings.

The color code is imprinted onto the tube according to the measurement that has been set so that the machine controlled by the computer will know which part needs to be cut to get the correct measurement of one toothpaste tube.

After the toothpaste is filled into the tube, the color code again is detected by the machine to tell which part of the tube needs to be folded or glued. Without the color code on the tube, the machine will not understand the right orientation of the tube during the process.

After the toothpaste tube is finished, the color code will help to distinguish the type of toothpaste based on the flavors present. The code will be read to ensure that the toothpaste tube will be inserted into the correct box.

Consumer Knowledge Is Crucial

Every toothpaste out there will usually come in 5 main ingredients.

The first ingredient will be the soft bleaching ingredient to help remove any stains and leftovers on your teeth. Secondly, a substance known as humectant is present which functions to maintain the moisture of the toothpaste so it does not dry out.

Thirdly, a thickener is added to stabilize the formulation of the toothpaste. Forth will be the cleaning agent that acts similar to soap responsible for cleaning the teeth and making the toothpaste spread easier.

Lastly will be the flavoring agent without sugar that gives a slight sweetness to the toothpaste. Do you know why your toothpaste creates bubbles as you brush your teeth? It is due to the chemical reaction of the detergent inside the toothpaste and your teeth.

Aside from the five common ingredients, other additives are also added depending on the necessity and products intended. Some will add fluoride, whitening agent, and even something that will reduce the sensitivity for those with sensitive teeth.

One thing to be added is that these color codes are not only present on toothpaste but also on other available products around us. You can also see them on snacks like chips and chocolate bars.
