7. Gomek

Gomek is a huge saltwater crocodile that was caught by George Craig in Papua New Guinea. Gomek was then bought by Terri and Arthur Jones in 1985 and was kept in Ocala, Florida for 5 years before being sold again to St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park in Florida.

Unfortunately, Gomek passed away due to a heart attack on 6 March 1997. At that time, Gomek was one of the biggest crocodile captives in the world. At the time of his death, he was measured 5.42 meters long and weighed 860 kg with an age of 60 - 80 years old.

6. Cassius

This Australian saltwater crocodile was once recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest crocodile captive in the world in 2011. Cassius however lost its front left leg and the end of its tail due to a nasty fight.

Cassius lives in Marineland Melanesia in Greenland, Australia. This crocodile was caught in 1987 in Finis River after it was found attacking a ship and causing a disturbance. Cassius measured 5.48 meters long and was believed to be more than 110 years old.

It was named Cassius Clay after the boxing champion, Muhammad Ali.

5. Yai

Yai is a crocodile at the Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm and Zoo in Thailand. Yai is measured around 5.5 meters in length which is far much bigger than Cassius. The hybrid of Siamese crocodiles with regular saltwater crocodiles has managed to produce a much bigger crocodile just like Yai.

Similar to Gomek, Yai has a high tolerance toward humans. Its caretaker is able to clean and touch it without any fear of retaliation. In fact, visitors can even take a picture close up at this zoo.

Yai is believed to have lived since 1972.

4. Brutus

This huge saltwater crocodile is named Brutus and has only 3 legs. It is often found in the Adelaide River, northern region of Australia. Brutus lost its feet during a heavy confrontation with a shark.

In terms of its measurement, its body length is estimated to be 5.6 meters long, and weighs almost 1 metric ton.

3. Bujang Senang

Bujang Senang is a saltwater crocodile that lived in Borneo. According to local sources, Bujang Senang was a human predator as it has been constantly on the attack and went on a killing spree for 30 years.

Bujang was then taken down in 1992 and after the kill, his body was measured at 5.88 meters long and weighed more than 1 ton.

2. Dominator

Dominator was never measured officially but it was estimated that he is 6.1 meters in length and weighs more than 1 ton. Dominator shared the same region with the giant Brutus. Both of them were found alive in Adelaide River, Australia.

Since both Brutus and Dominator live in the same area, many tourists visited this location to witness the crocodile up close especially the dispute between the two giants with regard to the territory.

1. Lolong

Measuring 6.17 meters and weighing 1075 kg, Lolong is the biggest crocodile in the world that is captive. Lolong is an Indo-Pacific crocodile or saltwater crocodile. It was caught by the Bunawan River in Agusan del Sur, Philippines on 13 September 2011.

This monstrous crocodile was hunted for 3 weeks and it took around 100 people to bring this crocodile to land. It was named Ernesto "Lolong" Goloran Canete in conjunction with one of the veteran hunters from the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center.

Lolong died 18 months later after it was caught on 10 February 2013. The medical reports showed that Lolong died due to congestive heart failure caused by pneumonia, heart lipidosis, and kidney failure.
